Piano tuning theory is concerned with using the science of acoustics to create and explain practical strategies for the precision tuning and tempering of the piano. It is concerned with providing a scientific understanding for many aspects of the art of tuning, that artist tuners learn to apply from practical experience, but which lie outside the domain of temperament theory.
