What happens in the action

The key is released: Repetition of the note in the upright piano include a repetition of the 'set off'. In the double escapement grand piano action an additional motion takes place - on release the key after the hammer had been 'checked', the lever assembly rises under the tension of the repetition spring, until the top of the repetition lever reaches the drop screw. This can be felt in the touch, especially if the repetition spring is set too with too much tension.
