'Weight of touch' includes contributions from the key, the lever assembly and the hammer. The key lifts the lever assembly, which in turn lifts the hammer on grand piano, or on an upright moves the hammer forward. Lack of proper regulation could lead to 'lost motion' - a small distance during which the key moves, but does not lift the lever assembly.
