Who make the best pianos?
This is of course, ultimately a matter of opinion. However, there are undoubtedly superior and inferior instruments. In my opinion, as far as grand pianos are concerned, the worldwide reputation for excellence enjoyed by Steinway is fully deserved. These are truly beautiful instruments, even when old and neglected.
Other superb European instruments of 'traditional' repute include:
Bosendorfer
Bechstein
Bluthner
There are many others.
Relative newcomers worthy of respect include the Japanese makes Kawai and Yamaha.
